If you experience at transient ischemic attack (TIA), a temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain, your odd of having a full stroke increase significantly in the days after a TIA. But a recent study out of China suggests that a short course of aspirin plus clopidogrel (Plavix) may cut that risk, and do so without an increased risk of bleeding complications. While aspirin therapy can be effective in promoting blood flow, it does carry a risk of internal bleeding in some people. Cleveland Clinic neurologist and stroke specialist Efrain D. Salgado, MD, says the results are interesting, but should be viewed with caution.
