A recent study of surgical aortic valve repair shows that five years out from surgery, there are relatively few complications, low mortality rates and significant device durability. The research also noted that among survivors of aortic valve repair operations, only 16 percent were still taking the anticoagulant warfarin (Coumadin) five years later. Thats encouraging news for younger patients who dont want to face long-term warfarin use.
