Everyone is talking about the high-fat, high-protein, low-carbohydrate eating plan known as the ketogenic (“keto”) diet. It’s a popular choice for weight loss, and many athletes, especially those in strength training and endurance sports, swear by it. It also has proven effective in controlling epileptic seizures in children. Now, some researchers are claiming the keto diet can prevent or reverse heart failure in some animal models. Cleveland Clinic heart failure specialist and researcher W.H. Wilson Tang, MD, wants to see more data before recommending it.
