Findings from a new study show that statin drugs benefit patients not only by lowering levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol, but also by raising HDL ("good") cholesterol levels at least moderately. Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Stephen J. Nicholls, M.D., participated in the study, which examined 1,455 patients (average age 57.6) with angiographic coronary disease in four prospective randomized trials.
