If youre spending this winter in Florida, you may only need to worry about sunscreen and staying hydrated, but what if youre a heart patient in an area where the temperature gets down to freezing and below? Winter can be an especially dangerous time for people with cardiac problems. "The first snowfall inevitably brings patients who try to shovel snow and have a heart attack," says Leslie Cho, MD, FACC, section head of Preventative Cardiology and Rehabilitation at Cleveland Clinic. "Shoveling snow is hard work and, if you are not used to such strenuous activities, it is best to avoid it or only do it in moderation."
