Cleveland Clinic study of heart failure (HF) patients found that only a third of those who meet the guideline criteria for aldosterone-antagonist therapy are prescribed the medication when they are discharged from the hospital. Research, led by Nancy Albert, PhD, director of Nursing Research and Innovation in the Nursing Institute at Cleveland Clinic, suggests that, based on the effectiveness of aldosterone antagonists in HF patients, a significantly larger percentage of patients could be taking a relatively inexpensive medication.
