Strict control of the heart rate of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) provides no advantage over a more lenient heart rate control, according to recommendations that are part of an update of the 2006 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association/Heart Rhythm Society Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Atrial Fibrillation. The guidelines were published in the December issues of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and the Heart Rhythm Journal.
