The thyroid gland secretes hormones which control the metabolic activity of the entire body. Too much activity - as occurs in a hyperthyroid state such as Graves Disease-forces organs to work too hard. People afflicted by hyperthyroidism can experience rapid heart rates (tachycardias), dangerous arrhythmias, and are at risk for tachycardia-induced heart failure.
