Computed Tomography (CT) Tests Provide Information on Plaque

Two CT-based tests help inform your risk of heart attack and reveal whether you need aggressive prevention, additional testing or revascularization.

The three-dimensional CCTA scan on the right shows which artery is affected—in this case, the left anterior descending, the most important coronary artery. This type of information helps cardiologists understand whether the plaque is threatening blood flow. If so, the patient will be referred for cardiac catheterization and, likely, revascularization.
