TAVR was developed as a safer procedure for individuals considered at medium-to-high risk for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) due to advanced age or illness. In response to the demand for less-invasive procedures, however, cardiologists began offering TAVR to younger individuals. As a result, a significant percentage of TAVR recipients are now younger and healthier.
