A fasting blood glucose reading as low as 100 mg/dL puts women at increased risk for developing diabetes and heart disease. In a study reported early this year in Circulation, researchers found that women with high fasting blood glucose levels (110 to 125 mg/dL) had the same risk of developing heart disease as those with diabetes. Diabetes greatly increases the risk of heart attack. Your fasting glucose level should be less than 100 mg/dL. If its not, talk with your doctor about nutrition counseling, more exercise, or medications that can lower your heart risks.
